A useful distinction for understanding what seems like a paradox — that we believe in science, but not in its findings, is that between “production science,” or the scientific knowledge that has led to the ease and comfort of life in the modern industrial world and and “impact science,” or the scientific investigation of the unintended consequences of our modern lives.
