📋 The Evolution of Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin started out in life believing, as most people in his time did, that life in all of its variety was the result of direct creation by God. Then he went on a trip around the world on the HMS Beagle as ship’s naturalist. He kept detailed notes of what he saw on his journey and only later, on his return to England did he slowly piece together the theory that is new closely associated with his name, the theory of evolution by natural selection. Read about his voyage, his discoveries and his slow realization that there was a better explanation for the diversity and adaptation of life on earth than the one he grew up believing.

I found this fascinating because Darwin concluded that the Galapagos islands were formed by volcanic eruptions therefore making a remote setting creating new life. I remember learning about Darwin in middle school but after reading this article I learned plenty things I didn’t before.

I also learned about Darwin in middle school, and at that time is was kind of confusing to me. But, I read this article I felt like it gave me a lot more information that I was able to understand better. It really is interesting what he accomplished.

It is interesting to learn that the many variations of giant tortoises of the same species which helped serve as the footing for Darwin’s theory, also mislead him for quite some time! According to the article at first Darwin mistakenly thought that the giant tortoises had been introduced to the Galápagos by buccaneers who had transported them from the Indian Ocean, where similar tortoises are present on several islands.

I did not know that variants that are better adapted to their environment are more likely to survive and produce. his evolutionary theory was the first step in discovering more and our origins

I also found that very interesting because I didn’t know that either until I read this article about Darwin.
