📂 1.4 Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is not as you might expect the same thing as being critical of everything. Instead, it is an important, if often under exercised set of skills we can use to sort out information and arguments into those that we should trust and those that we shouldn’t. Our brains need extra training to do this for the simple reason that they tend towards simply accepting whatever is presented to us as reliable by default. Our modern capacity to use language, images and other media to systematically distort the truth is something we are not evolutionarily equipped to handle. All is not lost, however, in that we can all develop critical thinking skills.
