🔬 The Scale of the Universe

Here is another presentation of the relative sizes of things. This is an interactive website that enables you to zoom in an out to compare the relative sizes of things from the tiniest measurable distance to the known universe as a whole. Once again, just like the Powers of 10 video this site reveals the power of science to be able to extend our knowledge to such a huge range of things. You can zoom in or out with a mouse wheel or drag the bar on the bottom. Clicking on each item tells you more about it.

I really enjoyed this scale, it was a lot less intimidating than the powers of 10 video. It was super interesting to see specific things in comparison to other things, I had no idea that the United States was roughly the same size as Pluto.

I found this wicked cool, always wanted to find something like this. Maybe you could find the next planet with life on it with this app.

After playing with this for a little while I found it a lot easier to follow without the stress compared to the powers of 10 video. I learned a lot more from this one. I particularly enjoyed being the one holding the power of the whole simulation as well as having the freedom to explore the items without stress helped me understand the content a little better.

This scale was a lot better to work with in comparison to the powers of 10 video, the other video made everything seem big and unknown and even intimidating, this fueled my curiosity in a good way.

This simulation was pretty interesting I liked how it gave me a different perspective rather than the video. It is cool how it shows multiple examples.

I liked this scale because it shows how mind blowing it is how large the observable universe is, and the fact that that much is observable at this moment. We have discovered beyond our galaxy, which to me is just unthinkable.

I liked this scale a lot, I didn’t even know there were things as small as what it showed me. Its also crazy to see how small and insignificant we are compared to the sizes of other things out there in the universe. I can’t even grasp the concept of how scientists even figure out these things.
